My Experience with KellynKai

Coming into this summer, I wanted to do more than wait for school to start up again. So I looked for a language learning service to enrich my linguistic understanding. Through this research, I found KellynKai. They offered a free lesson for the first class, so I decided to sign up and see if the tutoring would be the right fit for me.

When signing up for the first lesson, I found the signup process to be easy and was able to schedule a tutoring session. KellynKai sent me emails leading up to the first lesson detailing how to join the class and reminding me when I had signed up. When the time came for the actual lesson, I was impressed with the web app used in the tutoring session. It was very familiar because it felt like Zoom, a tool many of us have become familiar with during the COVID-19 pandemic. I found the tutor to be very knowledgeable and the lesson to have a coherent structure. Oftentimes in the past, when I wanted to learn languages with online tutoring services, I found the asynchronous learning services to be unstructured and disengaging. The KellynKai lesson was both engaging and structured.  

After the class, I was directed to use the KellynKai flashcard app to practice the material I had learned. I was impressed that the app synchronized the content with the lesson that I had just taken. I also found the flashcard app to be engaging and helped me master the material from the lesson. Furthermore, KellynKai reminded me to study via their “Word of the Day” emails. While I couldn’t pronounce the words in the emails, they served as a study reminder.

I feel good about continuing to learn with KellynKai because of the flexible scheduling. I can continue working and taking lessons because there is no way lessons would conflict with my work schedule.

So far, KellynKai has been the best online tutoring service that I have experienced. It is certainly better than Duolingo that I used in high school. I thoroughly enjoy the lessons and the tutor I’m working with. For the first time, I feel that I am actually learning a new language.
